Flashback to my Online Doco Journey I

As i started to choosing the Melbourne Silvermine as my subject matters, by previous class, there’s some important points that i need to do, which is plans everything before doing the documentary itself. I just read back my notes that i done for this documentary. This is what i write to organised the website of my documentary;

1. General Information of the community (Profile)
2. Interview of the photographers
3. Links to other social media that will related to the community, and people in that community.
4. Activities of the community (Events)
5. Contact to the community (detail, map of location)

For the interview section, i need:

Photographer with the gears (camera)
and the most important question: What is holding them together

A self thought for my future documentary

I haven’t decide what kind of documentary that i will do next, but from this course, i learn a lot in making a documentary. in hope that i can do a better documentary in the future, i will remember some important point to avoid some mistake like i did in my previous documentary. Some cases like;

1. I need to understand how the equipments works before the interview
2. better organized time of the interview in the future
3. Selective question for my interviewee
4. Always stick on the story that you want to do
5. Understanding the limitation in myself
6. Find some interesting subject matter for the future documentary
7. People/ Crews will always helps in making a better documentary

Britney Spears Slashes Unsold Concert Tickets To $4!!!

Yesterday, i read interesting news about Britney, while she was performing in London. The promoter need to cut the price from $200 to $4, this seem like the fans community of Britney Spears didn’t support Britney anymore. Even i not Britney fans, hope she can improve her attitude to gain more popularity.

Change the Header of my blog documentary

I need to change the header of my documentary from ‘Melbourne Silvermine: The community of Melbourne Photographers’ to ‘*UNOFFICIAL’, because there’s a clash between the official website with my online doco. The president of MSM also have take a look of my online doco, he feel happy about it. And with this, i also want to say thank you to all the people that contributed to my online documentary.

Tibetans – The community that depends on their spiritual leader

Tibetans community always believe with their leader, The Dalai Lama. But now, some of the tibetans didn’t believe more about the Dalai lama leadership. Dalai Lama always seek for the independent for Tibet, because he feel that under China, China only take the resource from Tibet. China already raise another Budha’s rencarnation, but Dalai lama also create another religion leader in Tibet. The tibetans future is become unpredictable, because some said that if Dalai Lama die, and they haven’t got a new spiritual leader, chaos can be happen.

The Indian Student Community Protest in Flinders Station

From the protest, The indian student community said that Australian as a racism country, that there’s several incident that happens involving the indian student as the victim of Aussie. I was there taking more of the incident photos which i haven’t scan it.

I personally believe that there’s no racism in Australia, there’s only bad and good people, but the incident that happen to Indians student in Australia is still need to be sorted. They claimed that the police didn’t act fast to fight the crime.

They also said that they will have a peace protest in the Flinders street station. But there’s also a small clash between police and the Indian protesters, its seem happen because the group separated into two. and some of them try to take over the Flinders street station, while other just keep in the middle of the road. Police also keep the protestants can express their feeling. Even the protest is arranged with one organization but the massive number of people can also created chaos, and sometime hard to control all the people there.

One of the Indians said that,’We just quiet before, but if you mess with us, we can show how big we are.”, Its seem that the community plays a big parts in Indian student society. They never want to have another accident happen to the student in Melbourne, they express it well, but they don’t need to blame Australia as a racism country. link

Flashback to my Doco III (The questionaire)

Before i started the interview, i try to keep my interviewee from knowing the question that i’m will ask them. I just generally tell them that i will interview them about the community. That, before the interview with each photographer, i already sketch what kind of question that i will ask them. I separated the questions into two pieces of paper. One is the questionnaire about MSM as the Community and the other paper is about the photographer itself in the community. The questionnaire about the MSM is for the founder of the community, and the other questionnaire for the photographers in MSM.

By separating it into two piece of papers, i can organized the question about the MSM and the photographers. With that, i can easily edit it in the post-production.

Jonestown – The religion community that went wrong

I always interested with the documentary about the religion. In the case of Jonestown, they think that they need to build some town that isolated from outside world. So they build a town so they can live with God, but some peoples start to denies the religion and try to escape from the town and some of the people still stays and believe with the leader, Jim Jones. that ended up with massive murder in 1978.

This explain how one person as a leader can control massive people in some of religion, he can created a massive destruction for the member of the groups itself. A community that only want to build a harmonies of life, become a nightmare for everyone that believe in that religion.

Mutant Catfish

People in Nepal start to be scared, because the man-eating catfish are in the river where they usually take shower and pray. There are several incident happen in that place, this will be dangerous for the Nepal communities who live surrounding the area.

Flashback to my Doco II (the interview)

I never done an interview before, i was planned to ask some of my friend that can speak better English to do the interview, but then i remember that the interviewer need to know who they going to interviews. With that i then doing it by myself, and i think i doing it well. Before the interview is taking place, i need to know the characteristic of the person that i need to interview, who is he, and how they will answer the question that i will ask them. This i think take time, to keep my subject matter keep relax when i doing the interview, i talk to them about their personal interest in the group, sometime personal life, just to make sure everything keep normal.

At the interview section, i try to make my subject matter to avoid the camera is recording him, i put the camera around 45deegree angle to keep my subject matter feel like talking to me, not talking to the camera. This is really basic knowledge that i find from every documentary book i read.
